Ship Pay Estimator

Ship Pay Estimator

Sailing with Military Sealift Command (MSC) can be highly rewarding, but calculating your earnings can be complex. CIVMAR pay depends on various factors, including your Position, Permanent Coast, Ship Coast, Ship Assignment, Overtime Hours, Penalty Hours, Collateral Duties and other incentive pays. This calculator is designed to provide an estimate of your potential compensation based on the scenario you provide.

General Info

  • Pool Pay, also known as your base rate of pay, is your salary amount when not assigned to a ship. Your Ship Pay is your pay amount when assigned to a vessel. Select “Pool Pay East” or “Pool Pay West” as your position to see your base pay or select your ship assignment to see that ships rate of pay.
  • East Coast vs West Coast Pay: When assigned to a ship, you get paid the higher rate of pay between your base pay and the ships rate of pay. West Coast Pay is typically higher; however, this does not mean your total compensation will be higher as the overtime rate may vary. Each position will have its own specifics. Everyone starts as an East Coast Mariner.
  • Typically, CIVMARs will get 8 hours of overtime for each weekend day worked (32 hours in a pay period from just weekends) and can get 1-5 hours of overtime on weekdays. Operations and other factors will dictate the actual amount of overtime hours worked. 40-110 hours is the general range.
  • Penalty Pay is paid for a variety of reasons to include working through meals or other atypical jobs. This is a pay separate from Overtime and can be earned during normal working hours.
  • Only T-AKEs and T-AOEs have the potential for ammo pay. To be eligible for ammo pay, at least 50 short tons of ammunition must be onboard.
  • You need to have 3 or more to a berthing area to be eligible for berthing pay. Officers rarely get berthing pay.
  • Only certain rates are eligible for berthing pay and the amount will vary. Typically, the most in demand potions will be offered retention incentives.
