The AS vessels are old, hybrid ships. As a result, their layout can be confusing, and it may take some extra time to learn the layout of the ship. Additionally, these ships do not have personnel elevators, and the ladders/stairwells are very steep. Despite their age and unlike every other ship in the fleet, these ships do have WiFi.
Rooms and Living Situations
MSC Officer
MSC officers have their own rooms with a shared bathroom down the hall. Since officers are sharing a head, they do receive some habitability pay. The only people with their own rooms and their own head are department heads.
MSC CPO
MSC CPO typically have small rooms with a shared bathroom.
MSC Unlicensed
There is open berthing on the Cable and the Land. Most unlicensed crew will be in berthing. There are 30-50 racks per berthing area for unlicensed CIVMARs.
Gym
The gyms on the AS vessels are some of the best in the fleet. They are very large and have a lot of equipment. Moreover, they are typically in port, so you do not need to worry about the ship moving during your workout.
Base Amenities
Since the Frank Cable and the Emory S. Land are almost always in port, you’ll have greater access to base amenities than any other deployed ship. The Guam base offers a large NEX, a commissary, a gym and other typical base services. Don’t like the food being served on the ship? Head to the commissary. Need snacks or something for your room? Visit the NEX. Is the ship’s gym too crowded? Use the gym on base. Being in port certainly has its advantages.
